Need for other than sofit vents in Florida homes?

I moved into a Neal Community house in Manatte County, Florida.  Neal and the county building code only require sofit vents without any outlet vents.  We do not have to worry about snow or freezing but we have a lot of Humidity.  In all our previous houses we always had both intake and exaust vents.  Do you know of any changes to the code that allows only sofit vents?  Should I install exhaust vents?

I’ve never heard such thing (only soffit vents)… top and bottom vents are required to utilize stack effect in an attic. Without passive or mechanically induced air movement hot dry or moist air will be trapped under the roof.

 

I don’t know what to tell you, you may want to talk to a local building inspector and have him explain this requirement.
